Transgender users of Tinder are taking to social media because they believe their accounts are being suspended on the basis of their gender identities. Several claim that their accounts have been reported and subsequently banned by other users they accuse of transphobia — and Tinder’s response hasn’t exactly been heartening.
I’m going to give his Battleworld introduction a Beast Mode 15. I’m glad Hickman has used him sparingly so far. Each time we have seen him, his moment is significant. I would like to see it keep building on that.
I’m still unsure of Scott’s current motivation. He has used the word ‘love’, and talked about setting things right. He is certainly doing what he believes to be correct, but what does he understand that to be? Who did he become in the 8 months following his nervous breakdown, in the wake of Xavier’s death? What happened when he put the pieces of himself back together?
The rise and fall of Scott Summers left a man disabused of his infallibility. He lost everything. His father, lover, best friend, the faith and trust of his people. Most of all, he lost himself. Too much had been given without rest. His inability to quit created a situation where he kept going well beyond anything sustainable, and it broke him. He appears to have restored his center. I think he found his zen.
This is a Scott Summers who knows what he is about. That is reassuring. His manifestation of the Phoenix appears to be uncorrupted. The problem with relying on that as an indicator, is the Phoenix is outside good and evil. It could perform an important and completely necessary action, but still leave tragedy in its wake. Through Manifold, the Universe brought Cyclops along for the ride, because he was needed to save it, but I don’t know what shape it will take, or if I will be happy about it.
I want to believe he will be a hero in all of this, but I am not about put money on it just yet.
But damn if his transformation into the Phoenix was not the highlight of Secret Wars 1 for me. With the world falling apart, he confidently rode into the heart of the storm with nothing but his trusty Sentinels, and a Phoenix egg.
Loved how he effortlessly laid waste to 1610 Richard’s armada.
But then Manifold and the Universe found him. “Scott Summers, I need you for a far greater destiny”
tyramir asked: Xavier did WHAT?! Bahahaha. Well played, sir. I cannot WAIT for the explanation, but seriously, never before have I seen a writer so willing to play suicidal chicken with his readership.
Every writer does that with every readership every issue. I just tend to do it with a little more flair :-)
But for the many many people asking me many many questions… the story is far from over so don’t flip out on my face about continuity miniature just yet
and, I promise you, there’s nothing about X-Men continuity that you know that I and my editors do not.
